Series Door Locks / Solved

Guess it pays to ask.

I have never had a Series with one entry key. Generally the key with the truck may or may not open one door. After much research I have found that it is next to impossible to buy a set of matching locks for a Series 109 IIA wagon.

I just left my local lock smith who was able to rekey both the front doors and the rear 5th door to open with the same key. Cost me $10.00. He was also able to make an extra ignition key and door lock key from blanks. The number stamped on the ignition switch key hole is the coding for a new key.

Good info if you face the same issues......

Yes it is handy to get the locks re-keyed so they are the same - I had the same done on the SIII locks on my IIA. Cost me $15AUD ($10.50USD) per lock to get them done, including freeing up one lock that was seized.

For my SIII 88", I actually ordered a set of 4 lock cylinders from the dealership, the part number for the SIII ones were the same as for the Defender. That way, the ignition, the two front doors, and the rear were the same key.

I'd still like to find blanks that are more substantial than the stock Defender keys, though... they bend awfully easy just from being in your pocket on a key ring.....
