I got on the 4.6 a little hard the other day in my 2003 Disco HSE, and the service engine light came on. I went to autozone and had the codes checked----it was 3 different things.

1.Oxygen sensors
2.Emission Control Sensors
3.Gear 4 ratio incorrect

I called the dealership and they said that because of one of the first 2, it could have caused the tranny to read out like that as a safety precaution---The car is running fine, and has no problems that I can see.

What do you guys think the fix will cost me, and is it something I must do at the dealership? Thanks in advance for any help!

Just reset the dash light and see if it comes on again. If it does take it to an inde shop for a code reading and then get an estimate of the repair.

4th gear ratio incorrect often means mass airflow sensor on a D2.

I had the 4th gear ratio incorrect. The first thing my dealer asked was does it start. at that time it did. then a few days later it didnt.

New MAF fixed it

Thanks guys----I will do that, but I just got home---and realized theres another problem, or atleast it sounds like it.

When accelerating, not constanly but at times, I hear a tap tap tap tap, almost a ticking or knocking----sounded like it was maybe a wheel bearing or something at first....Any ideas?

And I will reset the light, but how do I go about doing this?

Thanks guys

Go get some MAF cleaner, and give the MAF a good cleaning. This won't fix your problem, but will possibly help. Driving 500 miles with those codes, you'll probably be ok, but your gas milage may suffer a little (more). I'm a district manager (meaning I drive...a lot...3,000 miles every 2 weeks), I've been needing to change my MAF and just haven't gotten around to buying a new one. She drives fine, but definantly getting lower gas milage.

If I'm wrong on this one, I hope someone will speak up and let you know differently, but thats been my experience. :victory:

Maf x3...I'm on my 2nd (04 D2) at 33K already. They are cheap and nasty and fail with alarming regularity judging by all the posts on this board.
The ticking could be pinging...happened on a Jag of mine I once had...Maf went south and so did the mixture...resulting in pinging.
