Service Engine Light

1999 Disco I 98,600 Miles

Yesterday the red Service Engine Light flashed on for about 2 seconds about every 5 minutes.

I did a search on this site and all the post about the Service Engine Light never mentioned the light flashing while driving. Is this just the friendly emissions reminder, or something worse.

FWIW my Check Engine Light is always on with the error code of misfire in cylinder #8.

If it is solid it is nothing major. If it is blinking then there is something really wrong.

Did you figure this one out? My 98 D1 with 180K miles is doing the same thing. Every 2 minutes, the SE light will flash quickly. Do I need to reset the relay again? At about 60K it came on (solid), I reset the relay and havent seen the light since.

Thanks,
Dave

I had a SES just come up recently as well with code P0171 and P0130. I just changed last month 2/22/07 the two front O2 sensor and front passenger side to speed sensor to clear the 3 amigos and it did work. I also had a new air filter and MAF sensor installed. I don't know why SES was back. Maybe the driver side O2 sensor was defective because when I was cleaning the engine, I had to spray a lot of degreaser to th2 O2 sensor to get rid some of the gunk and when I rinse and waited for almost half-hour to drive the crap was smoking.

its the Service Engine light.. the red one. Its supposed to be just a reminder light that is on a timer, has nothing to do with the ECM (or so I thought).

Behind the right kick panel, you will find a brown relay, it's about twice as long as a normal one. It'll say TRW on it. Remove it, and throw it out. It's only function is to keep track of mileage and turn on the red light. The battery goes dead in it, and it forgets.

this would be the case in a DII but not in the DI. the SE light has nothing to do with the engine and how it is operating. its just a timer that tells you to come to the dealer. the check engine light is the one connected to the engine

I can get you a new one for around $270. As with all of us, they get forgetful as they age.

We actually had a customer at the dealer who bought one. He was worried his light would not come on.

We're planning on the 6/2 run, at least myself and a friend, maybe more. Did they get a new underwriter?

Help guys. My 1999 NAS Disco I does not have a brown TRW relay behind the passenger kick panel. My red Service Engine light is on steady and I want to turn it off. I removed the passenger kick panel and all I've been able to find are several Siemens relays (black, yellow, gray, green). None appeared to have a Land Rover sticker, and none had any apparent openings into which you could put a paper clip or other instrument. Any ideas.

I've got about 83.5K miles and the light just came on 2 days ago.

thanks,

greg
