I had a random misfire which caused the light to come on. Well I just changed all the sparkplugs, and took my rover to AutoZone. They erased the code but the light didn't go out. They checked it again, and it returned no codes. Therefore it did erase the code and there are no new codes. If I disconnect the battery for 1 or 2 hours will this reset the light? Who has done this before? Is it 1 or 2 hours - I have a family thing to go to so the extra hour is important.

Thanks in advance,

Ryan

Service engine light just means you need to make sure all of your O2 sensors are operating correctly. You will not get a code with a service engine light only check engine.

Ryan there really is no fast way to check the 02 sensors. As it could be the downstream or the upstream based off the code that you threw (and they are both unfortunately rather a pain to get to). Is the light that is on yellow/orange or red? If it is red then it trips @ 90K miles to signify that there is recommended emissions that need to be performed on the truck. Under normal circumstances, the red light will not go off unless you have it turned off by the dealership or follow the guidelines in the DWeb tech section. I would try removing the negative battery lead overnight if @ possible and see what solution that offers if any.

Battery disconnect does nothing on 96 and up GEMS.

IF it is service engine light then it is only based on time. IF you do not have codes or do not have any other issues just reset it and go.

There are no codes - and the truck runs great like it always has - I have 94,000 i think on it at the moment and the SERVICE ENGINE light has been on for some time now. Ill check my manual to see what all needs to be done at 90,000 - Thanks

Ryan,
So are you still running factory plug wires, if so they are getting pretty weak and will cause this to happen. At your mileage you should be planning on replacing the O2's, they are not allowing alot of power out of you engine at this point.
