Ses Oh No!

I finally got the damn 3 Amigo's out and now the damn ses light comes on. The truck runs great just like before and i have no issues. I will get the codes read this weekend and reset. Im thinking it has to do with me blowing out the air filter and the air box after Mar to get the dust out. Hopefully i didnt kill the maf. I dont think i did because it still runs great.

Im starting to think "Molly" is afraid of the dark and she turns these lights on for security and to admire my rock hard body.

Finally got my codes read. Autozone will still read the codes for free but they will not clear them. So now i have the codes but the light is still on. Guess ill have to buy a scanner.

The codes are:

P0171 Bank 1 too lean.
P0174 Bank 2 too lean.
I will assume this is a maf failure. I will assume this because both were triggered at the same time and i had the airbox apart at Mar and after to blow out the dust. I think i may have killed the maf with the air gun.

The other code is:

P0734 Incorrect 4th gear ratio. Does this code set with the maf also?

Thanks i thought so. I also have no issues with the way the truck is running. It runs great and the same as always. Is it possible to set these codes without damaging the maf? Can i reset the lights and be done or is this how it starts and then gets worse?

I guess ill look up the cleaning instructions and start there.

Yes. The P0734 is usually the dead giveaway pointing to the MAF.

You can try using electric-clean on the MAF wire but that did not work for me. Spray electric-clean to get the light off for a few days but if/when it comes back on, you should then go for the new MAF.

Your truck seems to run OK but if you check your mileage it just went down. Also if you have the ability with your tester check the long term fuel trims, I bet your over 22% where it should be in the 3~5%. This is my experience:

Sorry for the hi-jack, but how do you check the long term fuel trims? Any OBDII reader, or do you need Testbook?

I took the maf housing out and it looked clean. What kind of f...ing tool do you need to get the maf out of the housing? It looks like a torx but it has a pin in the center.

I am new to all the lingo and have searched re. 3 amigo's, could I get an explination of the three? I am building/rehabilitating a '96 disco all the help would be apreciated. I have read my codes and have MAF issues suspect.

Three - ABS, ETC, Downhill Decent.

You ABS faults out whether it be an actual failure of an ABS sensor or just a dirt or even a bad brake sqeak can cause a fault on the ABS sensor (probably the weakest link on the Disco).

Basically, your Traction Control (ETC) and Downhill Descent Control need the ABS to operate, so if the ABS faults, they all go!

They only do that because of this is a sue happy country.

Your 96 won't get the 3 amigos. FYI...

There are at least 3 problems it WILL get, but the amigos it will not.
