To finish up this thread...

My boy wanted to put some sort of marker ("a stone with words on it") out for Bob. Instead, we bought a spiral blue juniper. We planted it right next to Bob.

Just read this thread- so sorry about your loss. It's great that you planted a Juniper in his memory. Hope you and your son are doing better.

Yesterday was the 5 year anniversary of losing my GSD, Moab. I had a beer in his honor- he loved beer.

Best,

~J

Tacking on to an old thread here...

Ivan rescued Blacky in 1995 as a puppy. She had extensive intestinal surgery when she was only 3 months old and recovered well. She was all energy and fun until the last year or so. One of the fastest dogs I've ever seen...she used to run flat out alongside the four-wheeler and managed to even pass it a few times! The Border Collie (we think) in her made her extremely ball-driven and she could spend hours on end fetching a tennis ball and chasing the grandkids as they played baseball in the backyard. She rode in the convertible and hiked Crabtree Falls with us when were dating. When we adopted Max in 1998, she taught him how to run through the invisible fence to chase groundhogs or visit the neighbor's barbeque, acres away! She loved sleeping in the bed and behind her favorite chair. His parents kept her (and Max) at their house, even after we bought ours.

She was his girl when we met in 1996 and has continued to be his first love, even though we also adopted Max, Mika and Decker Bug.

Over the last few months, she has bravely battled some sort of cancer. At 13 years of age, she fought through good days and bad days. In the last week, her body began to give up. She tried to stand and walk but spent most of her time laying in the grass. The entire family (and vets office) nursed her with pain meds, her favorite foods and love. She finally passed away this morning at home.

Rest in peace sweet girl. I hope dog heaven is full of open grass fields and flying tennis balls!

Sorry to hear about Bob. Dogs are hands down the best companions.

My last dog died a year and a half ago unexpectadly at the age of 8. I still miss him. My new dog Phoebe I love so much, and when she goes I hoesntly don't know what I'll do. She has so much personality- she'll literally hug you randomly if you're sitting. If you pretend to cry she'll run over to you and act silly or nussle into your face.

Again I'm really sorry to hear about your dog.

It sounds like Blacky had a wonderful and full life thanks to some very loving people.

I am sorry for your loss.

that brought back some great memories from growing up. We had a border collie that was with us from 90 to 01. I remember coming home from baling hay the summer of 01 and my mom telling me he died in the back yard. we lived in the middle of nowwhere VA so he was the only one I had to keep me company especially when I was out of school for the summer. he was there for all my good memories. there is a giant beautiful rose bush planted over his grave. I don't know what i'll do when my chihuahua jack russel mix is gone. she would follow me off a cliff if I fell. My wife makes fun of me because she will lay in my lap on the couch and stare at me for hours while we watch a movie. there's nothing like a good dog. I'm sorry for your loss.
