I don't think i have been there in four or more years. Beautiful trail for an easy day trip. Might have to get another group together to head back.

Well, rumor has it that Shoe Creek is now closed.
Good thing I went a few weeks back.

A new land owner has restricted access so wardens are now closing the trail...heard from a friend that a small Jeep group went up last week and was met by the Forest Rangers and informed of the new restriction.

Jeff, when you were there did you see any new signs or other evidence of the closing? It has been a long time, but I do not remember the main trail crossing private property in a way that could be closed due to access issues for other land owners.

Nope, looked the same as always when I was there Saturday Jan. 3rd.

Other than hearing second-hand that the Rangers are keeping everyone out, I dont know the details.
Dont know which area belongs to the new land owners to restrict.

Perhaps Crandall can shed some light...

Not sure how true or accurate the info is. But i hear the new owner has signs up every 3-5 feet in his section, on both sides of the trail, stating to "stay on the trail. and no bushwacking". What ever the hell that supposed to mean. This is from some jeepers that were up there approxamently 3 weeks ago.

Just throwing it out there. Guess The truth will come soon enough.

I was just up there a month ago and ran into the land owner, who started yelling at a friend and me to get off of his property and that my "jeep friends" we're tearing up his property. All the while he and a friend were holding rifles. He took pictures of our trucks and said he was sending it in to the game wardens. After arguing with him for about 30 minutes and telling him if he keeps telling us we have friends that drive jeeps (as if) that we would nock him on his ass, everyone calmed down and we began talking, he told us people keep coming up on his land while he's trying to hunt which really agitates him as demonstrated by the before mentioned yelling. He basically said he's sick and tired of people pushing rocks into the road from trying to do hill climbs, along with the sound of trucks scaring off all the game.

Just as a side note I'm not normally a argumentative person but we had just drove 2 hours to go wheeling and being told to leave especially when there were no trespassing signs present. (apparently my jeep friends had tore them all down)

Not just the tax map, but you'll have to check if it's a deeded ROW or a prescriptive easement situation. In those scenarios, the land owners affected by the easement have some leeway as to how they might "protect" their interest. Of course, while threatening physical harm (either implicitly or explicitly) is probably not a good idea, it's known to happen. ;)
