Shop recommendation in SoCal? Fly-n-drive contemplated

Hey, I'm still looking for that first Disco. There's an '01 advertised in Van Nuys, CA at a used car place, but the guys are utterly hopeless. They have no history at all on this auction vehicle, have no interest in returning my calls or e-mails, etc. It looks great in the pix, and is a model that I'm very interested in, as a friend has one just like it and I really like it.

Can anyone recommend a good shop in that area that could do an inspection for me? I'm way up the left coast. I've had good luck with fly-n-drives before with other vehicles, but that was always with a seller who was very cooperative and easy to work with. These guys are absolute slugs!

Any suggestions from those of you in the Southland?

hey i'm selling an aweome D1 - see the post in the FS section, i'm happy to do the inspection, and as a general rule NEVER buy anything from the little lots in the valley.

i see these cars at police impound auctions get bought and dolled up and sold to poor bastards all the time. Its a MACHINE in the valley. buy junk cars, jerry rig em, sell em for big bucks and too bad about the customer!

Yeah, I've kept my eye on the Portland CL listings...no doubt there are some great cars down there. I bought a car out of Lake Oswego several years ago and had a wonderful experience with that deal. Of course, I was sticking to my personal policy of only buying from private sellers, and avoiding the know-nothing sharks on the used car lots!

The reason I was scoping out this particular one in the Southland is that a friend has this exact model, which I have seen nowhere else. It's a sage green '01 that has the black special edition wheels, and the brown leather/tweed cloth seats. His has been a trouble-free vehicle, plus I think it's the best-looking Disco I've ever seen.

Yeah, utterly flying in the face of my normal, cautious nature...lured by pure sex appeal!

Anyway, I sent the idiot several more e-mail inquiries and it's plain that he's not interested in trying to move his inventory! Oh well. I should stick to my personal policy; my success rate on fly-n-drives with private sellers is %100+.

I agree that the '98 is hot looking! I'm hoping for a DII, and have passed on several in the Seattle area that were priced similarly.

The quest continues...thanks for the responses! :victory:
