Sig 556 vs. DPMS or Colt AR

Looking to purchase an AR type rifle in the next few weeks (while owning a firearm is still legal) and figured I'd get some learned Dweb opinion.

I'm considering either a Sig 556 Holo or a DPMS/Stag Arms/Colt AR. I'm not sure if I can get the Colt in an A3 flat-top from my dealer so that may not even be an option. Besides the price, what do y'all see as pros and cons between those choices?

I like the idea of being able to get different uppers (6.5 Grendel would be the first), but does that outweigh the Sig's positive points?

Would love to get y'all's thoughts and experiences with either and/or both.

I'd consider an Armalite in addition to the Colt. However, you'll pay a premium for their name.

Charles Daly Defense: look hard at 'em, IMHO.... I liked it over all the others (Stag, Rock River, DPMS, Olympic, etc.).

Noveske and Sabre Defense would be some other ones to consider.

At your mom's
Colt for snob appeal.

go to www.ar15.com for head spinning amounts of data.

If you're concerned about the "still legal" aspect, buy a good lower face to face (and exploit the "gunshow loophole", while that's still legal) , and mail order the upper from your choice of vendor. No body will know you have one.

Of course, I sold all of my firearms at the no-questions asked gun buyback a few years ago.

Why pay more? Just about any AR will be fine except for the cheesiest of the cheese (supposedly Olympic, low-end DPMS and kits from Blackwhatever)
Buy an $800 Stag and be done with it, or "build" a rifle.
Get it in 5.56 NATO. Specialty, nouveaux and non-ubiquitous ammo is expensive and will be hard to come by on short notice. Military standard ammo is always easy to find.

I recently assembled an Anvil Arms lower onto a Delton mid-length rifle kit for just under $620 out-the-door (including the extra $15 for green furniture). I couldn't be happier.

Personally i dont think a brand name will matter as much as the sticker price in this case. After all from my understanding its a recreational/home defense weapon. I have a Bushmaster and never had a problem with it. Everybody on here has a favorite weapon and i m sure will chime in with suggestions, but just consider what you are getting the weapon for in the first place. Just my two cents.

A lowers is a lower - lots of options, forged, cast, machined. Except for cast, any forged is fine and machined is just for looks (which is OK too).

Best deal going is Essential Arms at about $80 - great receivers.

Definitely roll your own - much more fun that way and you get to pick components. Choose a Colt or Young mfg BCG (bolt carrier group), a good LPK, and a good barrel - all else is for fun.

If you don;t want to build your own upper - lots for sale used at Ar15.com, or go new with Sabre, Noveske, etc for the top end stuff.

just buy parts and build one. It's easy and can be done in 2 hours. If it's for weekend shooting, ground hogs, or just to say I have an AR then look for cheap stuff. If you plan on invading a small country then go for higher end stuff. most everything out there is the same just with different names stamped on it.

Every day of the year there is legislation against the "fun stuff", but it's a question of how viable is that legislation and how much support does it have in both houses.

Right now, IMHO, Obama has other things to worry about, but maybe that's burying me head in the sand, dunno. Now that Pelosi bitch is another story........

Then I'm definitely going with the Sig or something high-end. I was actually planning on getting Prime Minister Thatcher's son to rent me a helicopter so I could invade a small African nation...

Haha, seriously though, thanks for the advice. Looking forward to having a new toy in a few weeks.
