Buy the green bible. That, common sense, a hammer and a pair of vice grips and you are good to go. ;)

RN, BP, almost any of the Rover parts places will have them....

If you look, you can find the SIII version online (it'll mostly work, not a *lot* of difference between them)....

Absolutely. You're gonna be dealing with 1950's technology here. First off, no "electrickery" to speak of: instead of a nine pound "electrical troubleshooting manual" you'll get a one-page schematic. Think of it as a giant "erector set", in that everything comes apart, unbolts and can be overhauled or fixed with a minimum of special tools.

Congratulations. Now go buy a 5 gallon pail of 90wt.... :D

and if I may offer a suggestion, use the same color coding as LR did with the wire.

it makes it much easier to track a problem later.

we used an EZ wiring harness on my brothers SIIA, all the wires are labled like a painless kit but it costs half as much

...and you'll soon learn the meaning of SPOT. Stupid Previous Owner Tricks....

Like the IIa I once saw that had been 'rewired' by the aforementioned stupid previous owner. I guess he got a really good deal on a big spool of wire, as it was all the same color.

Damn...that was a nightmare for the new owner....

Use the Painless or British Wiring looms. It'll save you... I dunno...months of time/work.... Your heirs will thank you.

Cheers

Honestly, the stock harness fits so well and is so simple, I don't see why you would not want to just buy a new one and use that.

Congrats Daniel! If you need some somewhat local to you knowledge contact Sean Jones of Blue Ridge Roverworks. He works in S. Asheville just outside of Biltmore Village. He is a treasure trove of wisdom and parts. Come over the mountain sometime and I'll meet you there and introduce yall.
