I've heard these work well on roof racks. I haven't tried one because I just bought a new tent in May.

Tent Cot

x2. i just put in it on the ground, though. you really gotta strap her down if you have an sd rack. i just don't like it up there. but it's a great tent.

one thing you need to do though, is put some padding or other type of insulation to keep the inside warm from cold air blowing underneath you; that is, of course, unless you are camping in the summer.

that being said, it's a great tent and i love mine. fits perfectly up top.

Tent Cot has served me well, but I only bring it if I'm going to be camping for a couple days in a row, if it's just one night the back seat of the truck works fine.

Here is what you should do. Maybe a little more involved in what you are looking for though...

Flip, this thread is identical to one a while back.

http://www.discoweb.org/forums/showthread.php?t=4641&referrerid=2110

The truck in these pictures are of mudy ovl's truck. I think the idea came from northbyrover.com which is now inactive. But I remember seeing it a few years ago made for this guy that went from arizona to alaska. If you are going to build a drawer set up then this is easy and can fit a full air mattress back there. Or if you wanted to take out your back seats and build a box (something similar to a truck tool box with a flip top) that would sit in the floor of the rear to compensate for that drop then you could just throw a mattress in using that to make a nice flat surface.

I had these saved on my computer. I save a lot of photos for ideas and such and this is a really cool cargo set up IMO.

PS. instead of starting a new thread. If anyone needs any camping/outdoors stuff check out sierra trading post...HUGE sale going on right now with great deals.

haha, its cool. I would like to get a cargo setup, but I don't think I would really use it that much. But if I were to build one I would make that platform to sleep in the truck!

Good Luck on the move if you haven't made your way down there yet. Hope you bring your shorts, I wore shorts on Dec. 20 to work and broke a sweat loading my car to head back home, it was about 75!

I wish the move was done but the Army changed their minds so I'm going to continue freezing my nuts off they sent me to Fort Sheridan IL. on the north side of chicago.

the tent cot looks pretty good. looks like it'd be just right for my hannibal rack.

it would. I use their largest model on my hannibal. perfect fit, and a crank strap on either end and it aint goin nowhere.

just be sure you got a ladder. climbing up and down the side using the tires gets old.

A tent got strapped to the rack and a drawer system so you can fit an air mattress are two things I have done successfully and enjoyed the both
