Hello,

I've been tracking an oil leak under my 1997 Discovery 1 that has been dripping/spraying onto the exhaust/cats and smoking like crazy. So I did an ok cleaning and found that the front oil seal was leaking, replaced it, and sleeved the shaft on the pulley. Leak fixed, great! Next day, smoke again.... so I figured I'd give it a through cleaning and also clean out the PCV system. I washed the engine from underneath, on top, I washed the cats and above and around them, I washed the tranny and the transfercase... I went for a drive and everything was fine for about 5 miles until it started losing power.... the truck wouldn't move more than 10 miles power hour and there was misfiring and tons of smoke again from the engine which didn't seem to be from oil leaks, unless it was residue that I washed off that had spread. Codes - P1316, P1314, P0300, P0340..... could this be a case of me soaking the VSS? Cranksensor? Any ideas would help a lot, this is my daily driver and I'm stuck! Thanks!

You got something wet. Misfires maybe from water in the saprk plug boots. But if you really drowned this damn thing you might have gotton the ECM wet inside. That pisses these things off. If you think you sprayed enough water in there to do that you might have to open up the ecm and let it dry out a little.

Its not going to be the vss cause that wont store any faults when it shuts down cylinders. Anyway that usually only happens over 70mph. Sounds like you cant go that fast.

It's not the ECU, i didnt wash up in he left corner. It seemed to start after washing the passenger side cat and whatever is in that area. Are there any sensors there that could wet?

Hey, Thanks for the input. It was the fuel pump.... it just happened to go at the same time that I was degreasing everything. Thanks!
