Not sure about you hose/plug issue, but the cause of your smoking is typical of most Rovers and I am suprised that most of the people on here haven't seen it... it is caused by the ECU running the engine too rich. When you accelarate hard you are dumping more gas in the engine that it can burn at any one time....which is giving you the smoke issue.

That is why when they rechip the ECU they reset the throttle response in the mid and high range or the throttle possition.

Too rich is *usually* seen as black smoke, not grey. Grey can indicate worn rings etc. If you are running so rich that you can see smoke it's usually black and it stinks.

Let me find a HUGE piece of wood to go knock on before I say this...My Rover has never blown smoke. Maybe one time and it was black smoke after a misfire involving cranking away for about 30 minutes @ a Truck Stop (I was panicky when those Peter Built guys were asking if the little lady needed help) ..This incident involved a dead fuel pump though. After what you have said BigRed I am now leaning towards it not being head gasket. Oh well, that's a reason to celebrate! IMHO: It goes back to the ppl who did the 60K mile check up. Melissa N

I know my '97 Disco (107k) will smoke just a little if I stomp on the throttle, don't get me wrong it is not something you would see if you are not looking for it, but it is there.

Of course I have noticed it out of 4 Discos '96 - '02 that I test drove.
