watching Top Gear tonight? Discovery Channel is not airing it anymore. Or at least, not on Wednesday nights. Anyone know if they moved it or cancelled it?

After watching that show I find myself surfing eBay in search of cheap Porsches or TR6's

Bunch of f'ing Discovery Channel assholes, I loved that show! My wife and I both looked forward to a quite Friday evening together watching Top Gear and now those asshats go and cancel it? Good thing I've got like 15 episodes saved on TiVo. I'm going to email them and vent for a bit even though it will most likely do no good.

I saw the commercial last week, too for "New Wednesdays." NOOOOOO! We watch it every Thursday (DVR it...too late on Wed.) religiously. They can't get rid of it! :(

Here's the note I sent...tried to sound like a super-obsessed fan (which I am):

As a major Top Gear fan, I was dissappointed to see that the program will not be on this week. I also am noticing that it is not scheduled to air on the Discovery Channel in the near future, according to your website. I was wondering if the program is on hiatus or cancelled?

I am obsessed with this show, and watch it religiously every week. It's an asset to car geeks everywhere, combining humor with honest reviews of both our dream cars and our daily drivers. I belong to a Land Rover message board where we all enjoy discussing the latest episode each week. But this week, we're all wondering..."what happened?" Some insight into the fate of Top Gear would be greatly appreciated, for both myself and other fans.

Thanks.... _greg

I used to watch Top Gear religiously when we lived in Belfast, and was really excited when they started to show it in the US (even though it was a hacked up version of the UK show). If they really are discontinuing it then that's a real shame.

You can still download the UK version, but it's not the same as watching it on the big screen.

My husband and I plopped on the couch last night, even switched away from the baseball games, ready to watch Top Gear at 10pm. AND IT WASN"T THERE!

So, they really cancelled it?! :(

I got the same reponse via my email, but I also called Viewer Relations today. They said that the show was PLANNED for cancellation, but they decided instead to reformat it more for American tastes. What that means, I don't know. Maybe people weren't watching because they didn't like the cool cars we couldn't get?

Supposed to come back around the end of December, 05.

Too bad...I like it this way...but we'll see what happens. As long as they don't have The Stig racing around the track in a Camry, it shouldn't be that bad.

Until then...I'll be watching the DVR'd episodes... :)

One other thing that might help...just realised that this was in my mailbox, too...

Thank you for contacting Discovery Channel. We appreciate you taking
the
time to share your thoughts and concerns with us regarding “Top
Gear.”
Your comments will be forwarded to our program management and
executives
and will be taken into consideration.

The "Top Gear" show was not "taken off the air" but rather ran its
pattern.
It is being revamped for a U.S. audience and will return later this
year.
Look for it in December.

I liked the show, too. I especially liked the one where they tried to kill the Toyota pickup. Very funny...

I also love that Mitsubishi they were racing against the other exotic cars. I WANT one of those!!!

Just got that as a followup email, too.....

Interesting.... maybe it did some good, emailing them, maybe, so that they know that there was interest in it at least....

If its any consolation...Top Gear is a seasonal program, and does take time off throughout the "TV year" till the next seasons episodes are recorded...maybe thats the reason for the hiatus??
