So, this is different

That's an interesting project.

I will say, electric cars are a bit of a dead end. At least battery driven vehicles are. There's nothing in the pipe that would provide the energy density or the speed of recharge that we would require. They're not any cleaner or any more efficient than conventional engines either. That power is coming from somewhere (in this country it's probably coal) and the inefficiencies from generation to consumption really mean it's no better - or worse.

Most of the electricity in WA state comes from hydroelectric. But the hippies hate that kind of electricity since it kills salmon. I'd love to make up some bumper stickers like this: "No Emissions / Salmon Killer". You get the idea. It is so very chic out here to have a Tesla. Seriously. It gives these wealthy planet savers a woody.

I was about to pull a trigger and buy it, but the rat's nest of the wires under the hood killed the deal.

Seriously, what's so difficult about zip ties and wiring looms?

I have an acquaintance that is convinced battery-powered cars are the only way of the future. He is so convinced that he has converted a Miata over & butchered a vintage Saab to be powered by motors. Overall, I have to admit that he did a pretty good job of it (much better than a Ranger with no cargo capacity). Yet, there are some severe issues with his idea:

-his cars have very little range
-they are now extremely boring to drive
-they are powered by coal
-there is a very long recharge time between trips
-they have no heat. Because of this, he jumps in his Obama-wallpapered Saab 900 that spews blue-smoke everywhere so he can stay warm & smug
