So you want a practical decent MPG 4x4 driver/truck? I want the opposite - a Rover :)

Long shot on this board but:

I have a 1997 GMC extended cab 4x4 truck "Z71 offroad package" yO! That means it will run circles around the Rover offroad at the mall.

She started life as a V8 automatic 4x4 - and racked up 161K miles. The 4l60E tranny died a horrible death, as in a death worse then being forced to listen to Justin Beiber and Rebecca Black for days on end in a dark room.

It now has the 5 speed manual shift and motor out of a same year truck that had it's frame crap out. That truck only had 79K miles. The transfer case is original (with swapped input so it went onto the 5 speed with the larger output shaft)

Dark green paint over silver/grey cloth interior.

I am having the bottom 1/3 re-painted this week I hope if the guy gets off his butt. Some minor blistering and small dents so I will have that fixed (with metal if needed) and painted silver/grey on the "dust ruffle" bottom of the doors/bed.

New clutch and slave etc.
ALL new brake lines (copper nickel good lines that last forever)
New front pads and one caliper (stuck bleeder)
Almost new 235-85-16 BFG AT's
Brand new windscreen.
New wipers.
All fluids new.
Brand new inspection sticker yesterday.
Bedliner.
Tow pkg. with engine oil cooler etc.
Stereo/CD multi speaker deal.
"Trac-Rack" aluminum rear body lumber/ladder rack.
Loaded with all power windows/locks etc.
Bucket seats, center console rear bench in the ext cab.

SLE model (fancy trim and headlights, chrome bumpers) with very little rust overall, rear bumper is crusty like they all get, trying to locate a better one asap. Couple smaller dents in bottom of bed corners (should be removed when it get's painted this week) Looks nice and shines up well.

Frame is very good, surface rust of course, was a Virginia truck till a couple years ago supposedly and it looks like it.

Pretty clean, not at all perfect inside or out but a very very nice solid work truck or daily driver/weekend project hauler.

I have a ton of time invested swapping the running gear and doing the brakes etc but it's a nice solid truck now and a great worker. Everything works except the AC (may need a charge, no idea as I don't care really) and noting "hacked" at all in the running gear swap over. I had a full donor truck for all the parts, wires, pedal assemblies etc. Only thing still noticeable is the PND321 on the dash cluster..... I have the manual shift cluster but the milage is way off and inspection/title would then be branded.

I like Rovers better of course so if someone is looking for a good work truck or daily driver to tow with or something I'd swap for a running, driving, inspected Disco/RRC/Series or maybe even who knows what???

Lets say she is worth $4K - I really have no idea..... Yours can be worth much less, so long as i "LIKE" it we can probably work a swap. I don't *need* to sell the truck so don't offer me $1000 cash for it, it's better than that! :D

I can send pics - right now it's covered in snow that we got all day today. It goes GREAT in the snow by the way. Push button 4x4 works as it should. ABS functions great too.

Heater will drive you out of the cab.

Cheers,
Doug

Thanks - it's a good truck and actually quite nice to bomb around in.

I don't really want to give it up...... but I like punishment I guess so yet another Rover fits me better. LOL.

You only want a Rover? I've got a solid 99 Trooper I'm sure you could do some big things with. I would love to have a truck for my last two months in America!

Hey Doug I saw your message in my fs thread...I'm not really interested in the trade myself as these trucks just aren't my thing :) But I have a buddy who is looking for a tow vehicle for his boat. This could be just the thing. I sent you a pm last night with my phone number...could you give me a ring this afternoon? Thanks!

First person to drive her bought her. Well, deposit received and he's picking her up mid week.

I will actually miss it a little, boring truck but solid and reliable. :)

$4200 in case anyone is wondering and he said he'd been looking quite a while and it was priced under most and was the cleanest by far. I guess I should have asked for more!

Craptastic - buyer backed out due to personal issues. I could have kept the deposit but I like Karma. :)

So she is available. Lots of interest locally but it's here. Still driving it daily.

Doug
