Soda Blasting

I just got my S2 109 (ROVERMUD) soda blasted this weekend by CharlotteSodaBlasting.com. They were quick and inexpensive. I dropped it off Friday and picked it up Saturday. The great thing is, it does not harm gaskets or glass. They even have shops use this blasting for degreasing. BTW...The fenders are in the back because I wanted them blasted seperately so the paint would be removed on the engine side of the fender.

My next task at hand is replacing both of the rear quarter panels.

none of your fucking business
Soda blasting wont warp or damage metal, it wont settle in your lungs, and it wont harm the environment so you dont have to worry about dumping it.

You can buy pretty cheap sodablasting kits that will hook up right to your air compressor....

Cool.

I've got this non-pressurized sand blasting kit I use with glass beads. Basically, a suction-feed hopper. It is marginally useful, especially if the hopper is positioned higher than the work piece. Would soda work with that, or does it need a pressurized hopper?

Cheers

Out of curiosity, what was the damage to your wallet? How well did they get into the frame and whatnot underneath? What kind of prep was necessary on your end prior to having the work done?

FWIW ..,,,, somewhere around here I've got a pair of those triangle replacement panels that set just behind the middle door and in front of the tub. Ended up not having to use them.

It cost about $500 for the whole job. I did not have them touch my frame since I replaced that about 2 years ago. One thing about the soda blasting is that it will not remove surface rust from steel. That's where sand blasting has a one-up. The only prep I did before taking it to the blasters was to remove anything that may get in the way, i.e. gaskets, license plate, tire-rack, fenders, etc.

My current task at hand is to prep it for paint by going over every inch with 320grit. I'm going to get an expoxy base with a single-phase enable for durability.
