Is it happening this year? It's less than 2 months out and I've not seen any updates on the website or on any boards?

Does anybody have any inside information?

The dates of September 12-14 have been reserved via Windrock's website.

Rick N. was telling me JackW was trying to convince him to come, so I assume everything is still on

I'm excited for the event

Yeah I saw that on the calender too. I'm actually planning to go this year and will be bringing a friend with a Jeep. Which I assume is OK since I saw pics of non-rovers last year.

This will be my first time to Windrock so I'm looking forward to it.

Two FJs and an Xterra (Expo jackoffs [ONLY synthetic was good enough, LED light bars galore, etc]) were trail leaders of my group last year. I'm no member of SOLAROS but I believe it's evolved into all makes of rigs but I could be wrong. I wish it was all Rovers at SAE

Why are you tired of being showed up by other brands? :D

I may be biased because I wheel with a buddy who has a Jeep. But I don't see the isssue with off brand makes attending an event as long as they come with someone that has a Rover. We all like to wheel with our friends so why stop someone from doing that just because they don't want to own a rover. Especially in a public venue where you can't really control it anyway.

What struck me as odd was that we had several people that showed up to Safari this year that didn't own a rover and didn't know anybody there that did.

Those FJs whooped our ass, I'll admit it. But yeah that is weird showing up to that with no association to the Rover. I just like the Rover-only vibe because of how badass it looks when one make owns an entire trail, plus theres always something to talk about and everyone knows how to fix each other's trucks!

SAE 2014 is a go - we should have the website active within the next couple of weeks. As we did last year we are having the event at Windrock again during the weekend of Sept 12-14. Solaros has always invited our friends with lesser vehicles (you know who you are) to participate so we can demonstrate the clear superiority of our chosen marque. Plus we like people - most of them anyway.

So bring your Rovers, Jeeps, Toyotas, Nissans, G-wagens, Pinzgauers, and other makes to the 21st Annual Solaros SAE event on Sept 12-14. We are scaling back a bit this year using the Uwharrie Safari and URE! events as a model so the guys putting on the event can relax and enjoy it instead of sitting at a registration table all weekend. Expect the same laid back social gathering coupled with access to a great off road trail system at a great time of the year. More to come soon.

Wait, there is trail guides?

I'm sure it's similar to most events where they have guided rides for people who want/need them. Windrock is open to the public and is not exclusive to SAE so I'm pretty sure you don't need a guide if you don't want one.

With almost 300 miles of trails in 70,000 acres we will have some rides led by experienced members of the club to keep people who can't read a map from getting totally lost. There are also some trails at Windrock that you definitely don't want to wander down in a stock truck unless you're really into body damage and hiking back to the campground well after dark. Some of our members have spent a lot of time wandering around up there and can give some good suggestions on which trails are more fun/scenic/challenging but pretty much you are free to go off exploring by yourself or in a group if you want.

I've only been there twice and haven't even scratched the surface of the available trails up there so I'd probably tag along behind one of our trail leaders myself. We'll have some suggested rides for different levels of challenge for the newbies but its an open ended event where you can explore on your own as well.

I believe that was Steve Springs from Southeast Overland that was a sponsor, non-Rover guy sponsoring a Rover Event. If you have never been to SAE or Windrock Park, it is a good time!

The trails maps are misleading, the "medium" trail we were on was more than that.

Dunno if anyone from Florida has made plans.

I think Steve led the rides on the black rated trails. Some other FJ guy and an Xterra guy led the blue rated ones. Yet another FJ guy and his wife in her Xterra led the green rated ones.
