I am in the process of installing a DI CDL lever in a 2001 DII. I am debating on wheter or not to disconnect the TC interlock solenoid and transmisson interlock solenoid. Who has done it and is it worth it? What are the advantages to doing it?

Thanks.

I didn't disconnect mine, got it all bolted in and it wasn't working correctly so after all that work i had to relift the vehicle and scrape my hand up trying to weasel the solenoid out. If you have someone who drives the rover alot who might bump or push it, try and keep it. I primarily drive my rover so the solenoid is gone.

if you take it out, it won't get stuck in either high or low range when you don't want it too ... low range only at a trail a long way from home is no way to have fun ...

I pulled my transmission selector interlock solenoid #4 pg 4-44 in Rave but failed to pull my #31 solenoid on the T-case pg 41-4. I wish I had when I had the tunnel open. I will probably do it when I have the time and it is warmer, or when I get stuck in low:mad: whichever comes first.

Cheers,

Mike

Do I just remove the solenoid and put the cover back on? What about the neutral safety solenoid? Do you just cut the plunger off?

I pulled the solenoid on the high/low shifter, and cut the plunger on the tranny shifter. I really couldn't see a real reason to have either of them. On the gear selector, you have to depress the trigger to get it out of park anyways, so the solenoid wired to the brake switch just seems dumb. My 00 didn't have a solenoid on the stock high/low shifter, so I removed it from the 04 CDL before I installed it.

The only reason to not do this is if you have young kids or maybe dogs that could bump the shifter and cause the truck to move when parked.

For the transmission just pull the solenoid out, leave the wiring alone / unplugged. For the transfer case I pulled the solenoid out and used high temp RTV to seal the whole thing including the little hole where the wiring came out.

The computer and instrument lights won't know if you do this, but you will still have to put the transmission in park to get the key out of the ignition.

UPDATE!

With the help of MtclimberVT we have completed the DI CDL installation. We also disconnected and removed theT/C Interlock Solenoid and cut the plunger of the Neutral Warning Switch.

Everything seems to work like it suppose to except for the funny little red lite that comes on when I move the T/C shifter to the left. Oh well, I guess I will get use to it.

Also I now have a 2001 DII T/C shifter and a T/C Interlock Solenoid for sale or trade. Ha Ha!:)

I kept mine and had my LR mechanic install the correct wiring with a weather proof connector off of an old wiring harness. Took him all of 20 minutes.

It's worth it to me when your stopped on a steep incline/decline and knowing your truck cannot shift out of gear. Peace of mind for me...
