I don't know, but I have thought of that several times in the past. I thought it might be nice to make a removable one, that comes off by pulling a few pins. It would be a good spot to toss muddy boots, hooks, straps, and such temporarily.

It would also, if strengthened properly, be a great place to stand when tinkering with lights and washing things.

I'd definately want it to come off, though. I wouldn't want to drive around town like that, I don't think. The roof rack is great, but I'm short.

That would be fine if it was an enclosed basket, but an open basket will just end up being piled up with stuff. Before you know it, someone will put their ice chest or pelican case up there and block the drivers view.

Quite true. Of course, I have never been very guilty of traveling often with others. I myself would refrain from piling it with stuff. I think the main thing for me was the idea of making that big hood useful for something other than covering the engine.
