this one is being built mostly from a bunch of spare parts i have laying around.
the receiver is a mod98 from a yugo rework. i picked it up as a barreled receiver years ago for next to nothing then sold the barrel for close to what i paid for the whole thing. the barrel was bought used for around $20. its chambered in .224 apache, a shorted version of a 22-250 but a 22-250 reamer will clean up the chamber so i may just ream it to 22-250 since i already load for that caliber. the stock is from a h&r comercial mauser, i'm reshaping the stock to more of a british style by rasping off the rollover comb, reshaping the cheekpiece to an oval shape, sweeping the grip back and shortening the forearm about 2" & adding a ebony tip. i have a mauser 10x scope for it, i haven't made up my mind on rings & bases yet. i have a set of s&k sculptered mounts & rings that i may use but i'm also considering as set of eaw style swing mounts or going hog wild with a set of square bridges cut for talleys.
bottom metal is fn with a custom floorplate. i still need to weld a hadle on the bolt & scrounge a few more parts.
pic before i started reshaping the stock.

rough shaped cheekpiece & swept back grip. i'm going to make my own trap door grip cap & metal buttplate.

side view. i still need to shorten the fore end. i'm still on the fence about adding sights, if i do it will get a quarter rib & a banded front

This one is interesting Jim. I'm impressed with the floorplate work. Will you be thinning the trigger guard? Save the quarter rib and sights for a classic open sighted rifle in something like 9.3X62. What are you doing for a safety?

the triggerguard is already as thin as it needs to be.
if i end up going with the swing mounts or square bridges i'll make a quarter rib. if i use the s&k skulptured mounts & rings it will not get any sights.
for the safey i have a voere tang safety trigger that i'm going to install along with a fn bolt shroud.
i've been planning on doing a 9.3x62 but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Nice, I'd love a 9.3 on a thumb cut early FN, english style stock, thin forend etc. express leaf rear, barrel band swivel and banded front sight. Or maybe a bolt shroud peep sight, that would be sweet.
