Spare Tire Mount Question

Not a huge deal, but I was thinking of way's to invert the spare mount for my 255/85/16 tire without having to disassemble the rear door. Are the nuts on the inside of the door for the spare carrier loose or spot welded to the door panel? I thought about taking it off, inverting it and using Riv-Nuts to re-attach it. I just don't like the idea of the old nuts rattling around in the bottom of the door.
Thanks - Bill

Damn.

This job is too easy. It takes fifteen minutes, including drilling the new hole, refitting the carrier and adjusting the wiper arm.

The attachment is six bolts with six washers. No loose nuts unless you drop one and can't find it.

On the tire carrier there are three bolt holes on the left and right side. The center hole is not equidistant from the two outside holes so when you flip the carrier the center hole won't line up.

You use the two pieces of metal that act as a spacer between the carrier and the door as a template for the new hole.

It takes longer to explain it than to do it :)

You dont really HAVE to drill a new hole either. I have used the 4 main bolts on my carrier with a 264/75r16 bfg mud terrain for two years now gotten rear ended into the spare tire and had people standing on top of the spare tire without any problems concerning the mating surface between the door and carrier. just sayin

Also its really not that dig of a deal to pull the interior door panel other than maybe breaking a clip or two if you are careless with it. Its already unbearably simple to do so dont bother with rivnuts and all that junk, its not worth the time

Any gotchas when pulling the liner...

- do you need to unscrew the latch

-do you need to unscrew the speaker

-any "best" way to avoid trashing a clip or two (how many are in there?

Thanks everyone....just like to use the wisdom here to avoid silly stuff.

Just did the job and the red clips holding the panel on are brittle and you will break some you will need to drill two holes into the tire carrier, real easy just bolt it on and drill through the existing tailgate holes and it will go through the carrier. You will have to re adjust your wiper travel or notch/ grind the carrier as the wiper arm will hit. not a hard job at all takes about an hour if you include cleaning and spraying the new holes you drilled into the carrier.

Update... Did it the right way, removed the panel (no broken clips), drilled, painted, inverted, re-installed. My 255/85/16 fits, but JUST!, with aftermarket bumper. 1mm larger or stock bumper and I don't thing it would work.
