Spare wheel mount

My spare wheel mount on my 98 Disco 1 has significant rust so I want to replace it before a wheel bolt breaks through. I see the mount for a Disco 2 is similar in shape. Will it fit ??

is this an opportunity to mount a carrier that will accommodate a bigger tire? i read somewhere that if you mount the stock one upside down would help also

Actually no, I am happy with standard tires. Its more of an opportunity to deal with a nasty rusty carrier LOL

Spare wheel mounts often suffer from this break issue.
In order to prevent cracking, simply put rubber bushings on each bolt, so that pull of the bolt is against force of a rubber, and not metal against metal. This will allow get a silent spare wheel but not cracked mount after ... 20 years, haha!

The D2 wheels have a different bolt pattern than the D1, so it wouldn't be interchangeable.

Thanks HOO. I was not aware of that. I will concentrate on looking for a D1 part or a sensible repair plus perhaps some rubber washers.
