I will be changing the plug wires on my '97 D1 and am looking at the Magnecor Blue, Moroso Ultra 40 and the Accel 10.8mm 300+. I know some use the Magnecor here and alot of Jeepers use them also but I am motor stock so any input would be great or other suggestions. Thanks all

I second that. I'm running Magnecor Blue on my 97. Bought my thru Rover Connection, ran around $70.

Direct fit, if you get the larger diameter you may have to replace the things that hold the wire, I forgot what they were called, you can get them from Jegs or Summit racing etc.

Yep direct fit, no cutting required. Just remember to take one off at a time and match it up with the replacement. You don't want to "cross your wires".

As stated above, they'll be a bit snug when fitting them into their respective plastic routing clips (or whatever they're called).

Ok, sounds great.
Sergei & PM what is the doubt you have? Do you have another option? I am open here. Just want to get the very best for my girl. :D
If I go with Magnecor I will be getting the Blue wires, 8mm I think.

I do not know the pluses of the magnecor. However there are a couple of obvious issues.

The little stinking combs that hold the wires are built for 7mm and I have seen that they will break with 8mm. I hate little shit like that so that alone made my decision.

Second is that I have a lame ass, less than 190 hp 10 yo vehicle WTF is a "high performance" wire set really gonna do for me? Why spend the $$?

Feel free to answer it really is not necessarily bait, I just do not understand the pay off.

Well i guess Peter may explain electromagnetic issues with Magnecor's advanced theory of Universe better than i am to ya :)

But answering your questions, Brian - reason to use better performance wire is pretty simple - less system got to struggle to deliver power to spark - easier ignition is. Better electricity usage you got in truck :) Also more power you got to the plug - longer lasting it may be, and longer arc can be (unless you using those 4+/2+ plugs. Then you got no use for it whatsoever). Both things giving you better fuel use (and thus economy) and better power.

Bri,

They cost less than genuine from LR. And even if Peter's all pissed off at their description of physics, and no, they aren't magic, but they are at least as good as if not better than genuine.

Same or better performance, less $ than factory, they fit well (better than other aftermarket sets I've tried)..... I'd suggest them.

But it's your truck, use what you want.

No one is pissed at their description. Its just misleading thats all.

And yeah they better than original stock - about 3 times less resistance boot to boot (comparing 7mm stock to 8mm Magnecore). Pretty much anything is better than stock ones. Specially worn stock ones :)

I've run Magnecore on my racing vehicles for years. There is really only one benefit, and in my opinion, it can be significant. At least it was for my race cars.

The difference is shielding. When running at higher RPM, other wires had a tendancy to 'cross-fire'. Essentially, since the wires are close together, you would have a false fire on a plug that isn't supposed to fire yet.

Having said that, this was very apparent on my other cars, running between 6K and 10K RPM for sustained periods of time. Given their success there, they can only help a lame-ass Rover electrical system.

As far as the wire holders are concerned... get a 8mm drill bit and enlarge the hole. Try not to squeeze the cable into a 7mm opening.

FWIW, recently I bought a set of MSD blue 8mm wires (generic set) for the Rangie. If I had ignition issues, I don't have them anymore. The price was something like $72 or so.

I only buy from LR in an emergency. The primary reason is that I do not use them is the silly combs and the fact that I really doubt that it will help my tired 10 yo engine's performance. I usually spend less than $40 on wires, BTW.

The question is... did you have ignition issues.

I thought I had, so I replaced both cap and wires. It went away.

But, it may have been a fluke - later on, I found bad electrical contacts in some of the passenger-side fuel injectors. Fixing that had a bigger impact.

Long story, first of all the wire holders are called "looms" and secondly, I plan on getting Magnecor when the beast needs them, again. I was with a buddy at the local high school auto shop class that he teaches part-time at. They were having the annual science fair and he said lets check it out, so this one kid ( a girl mind you ) has a display set up for showing resistance of electricity or something like that. She has all these plug wires and ohm-meters on them, she has them short and long, wet and dry to show changes etc, you get the picture. We noticed that when we shook the wires the ohms would change on all of them except the magnecores, we were really shaking and jerking them to get them to fail and they did not. It kind of sold me on them.

I was messing around with my buddys D1 the other day and added a set of magnecor wires (8mm) I couldn't believe the results! :D
