Ive heard good things about the Valvoline Maxlife. I might go out on a limb and do my filter one day. Ive got all kinda vibrations etc like the truck wont downshift and upshifts to soon, no amount of kickdown cable tinkering will help it. Keep us posted, good thread

well i have some RP on the way. however, i did a complete refil with the penzoil and it runs a lot better. even after parking it for a few days at the airport, the sticky launch into second was pretty immediate once i got going. i may do another med-grade fluid change before the RP gets here. otherwise, normal driving is nice and easy.

it would be nice if i skirted disaster.

doesnt look like it... running like balls again, did the other fluid change. this time: A NICE LITTLE PIECE OF METAL on the magnet.

filled it - ran it - stick icky 1st gear.

went into low on the tcase, shifted great. figure that out.

shift back into H - runs great. more fun tomorrow.

if it is really cool out and the truck has been sitting my tranny holds 1st, not to this extreme though. I did a drain and refill, no debris came out, and the fluid was fine. I had an older rover that would hold 1 and then drop in to 2, pretty nasty. It ended up giving the ghost and needed a new tranny. I do not think the ZF is the smoothest shifting tranny out anyhow.

RIP ZFHP22 1992-2010

This tranny moved around a nice LSE rover until it sat in a garage for years until it made its way to an enthusiast who put a 4.6 in front of it, wheeled it, raced it, even tried to service it. It had a very happy life. It believed in its 1st class rating so much so that at the end of its life would only stay in first gear no matter what as its swan song. It will be missed.
