Yeah, since I pretty much hijacked this thread, it should get back to the original point. My RTE bumper needed some touching up, and I just sanded and painted it. It does seem like paint is the easiest thing to do for a brush guard ...

I purchased Durabak in gloss black with the texture. I wanted to paint the black arches since they always fade and blister in the Florida sun. I lightly sanded them and brushed the paint on letting it dry until the next day. It did not look as good as the pictures in the website- some flat spots on certain angles would turn shiny if you looked at another angle. It was user friendly.

After looking it over with the wife, I decided I was not happy with it and the fun began... I started an edge and it peeled off in pieces. The stock plastic running boards came off almost in three pieces with no bonding whatsoever. In a way I'm glad that I tried sooner than later. The front corners/apron would not come off and so I kept it on.

I ended up using the 3/4/s of the gallon to treat the bottom of the chassis mostly hitting the frame. I believe it will bond much better to the paint (fingers crossed). As for the arches I will repaint them with a product sold through Sherwin Williams for automotive trim in flat black or satin if there's such a thing.

My advice to anyone is to prep really good and only try a small section to see if it bonds to your satisfaction before going further. Luckily I only did one side and it took me 3 hours strip off totally.:banghead:

The best news is tomorrow- I finally get my BF Goodrich MT's!!! I've been waiting two months after I did the 2" Rovertym lift. Budget held me up-

Ok so my dad primed the brush guard without me knowing and we both decided spray on bed liner will look the best.

For the guys who used dupli-color spray on bed liner, how many spray cans of it did you use? I see that it comes in 16.5oz cans.

Also, since its primed should I be all set to paint on it?

i used herculiner for mine. piece of cake.....it comes in a kit with a roller. just tape what you need to off and roll it on. works super well. I like it much more then spray on. my buddy did the same thing on his rover with the spray on stuff and it faded soooo fast in the sun. you don't have to primer either....just rough it up with a srubbing pad (included inthe kit) and then roll on. it has held up for years too and not faded!

Alright should I...

1) Use Duplicolor Spray On Bedliner from an Aerosol Can- ~$8 for a spray ca
2) Use Herculiner and paint it on ~$30 for a quart
3) Use Herculiner and use their roller and spend ~$90 on their kit

use the hurculiner kit. fwiw, it's the same as the durabak stuff, it just doesn't come in as many colors. the hippoliner stuff is also tintable but you need to get it color-matched at your local body shop supply.

Well I am just painting my brushguard black so color is no issue.

I've read reviews and I think I am going to go with the Herc.

I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

Well I was never planning on painting my entire car in it, though some people have apparently. I would have to be crazy to do that.

Whats with some of you guys, spray on bed liner is like a drug... you can't stop using it. Or highlighters, once you have it in your hand you highlight everything.

Ok so I used the Herculiner and have done 2 coats. I think I might do a 3rd to make it a little smoother.

Anyways here is my progress. I'm not sure if I like it, I'll have to see in on the car...

If you look at Pic 1 it kinda looks like it is magically floating haha

I did the whole truck about 2 years ago. Here is a link to the pic.

You can find 3 others in there too. Used Durabak as well. Green on the truck, black for the hood blackout, front bumper, and sliders. Also removed the carpet and did the whole interior in black. Ripped out the headliner and foam and did the inside of the roof in tan.

I rarely wash it, but when I do, use a concrete brush and some soapy water.
