Spring/Air Bag to RTE 2"...Done! Before/After Pics up

Mind you I have not done much more than an oil change before so this was a big project for me to do alone.....about 12 hours non-stop last friday with a little help from my buddy with a bum ankle (he lent me the use of his garage for one day and his tools).

It was pretty straight forward following the directions from the tech section here on DWeb. I would only suggest a couple additions/things I found difficult to figure out:

-The DWeb instructions say nothing about having to tap the holes for the bottom spring seat, good thing I read the RTE instructions too...
-Finally figured out after a couple hours of screwing with the first rear spring that it would go on without the isolator which would slide in with the spring compressors still on.

Approximate times: First rear was about 4 hours(collecting the right size wrenchs and sockets), second was 2 hours. Passenger front was 3 hours, driver side front was 2 hours.

Been working since I got it done, day off tomorrow so I should have some pics up then.

I can't wait to do a 2" lift on mine!
Was going to wait until the spring but after seeing yours I don't know if I can wait!:smilelol:
Heck I'm going to replace all the brakes and add stainless braided hoses maybe I should just do it all at once?
Just have to pick out some shocks.
And of course rebuild the front drive shaft.

Your "To Do List" is remarkably similar to mine. Leaking air bag sent the shock/springs to the top of the list

Nice !!!! The lift made a huge difference for your truck......I've been holding off on doing it......but a lift is inevitable.

Lifts mean bigger tires. What are you putting on it?

So yesterday I got under to hear the compressor clicking on and off, I am planning on selling it anyways so I decided to take it off.

Now I have the most annoying alarm at over 20 mph. Any way to stop this until I can get to a dealership to turn off the SLS?

Nope, you'll have to do like me and try to not go completely nuts until you get to the dealership:ack: . They have to get in the computer to unprogram the SLS option. Just put a good CD on and blast the volume!!!

The trick to a free testbook reset is donuts. Get to the rover dealer right before they open and flash 1-2 dozen @ the tech guys. $8 in donuts is better than the $75-90 they usually charge.

I made an appointment with Automaster in Shelburne, VT to turn off my SLS. The tech said he had never done it before. Is there any trick to this or should they know what they are doing? Anyone ever have any work done with them?

It cannot be done with just any code reader. It has to be Autologic/Testbook. If they have that, then they should be able to figure it out. If I were you, Id do a search and see if there are directions posted for this operation just incase the guy gets in a jam with it.

Or Rovacomm. They need to interface with the SLABS and then simply switch to coils.

If you are in a pinch, put the compressor back in, plug in the connector. Then make some little extentions for the ride height sensors about 3/4 to 1" long and install them between the rear radius arms and the sensor arms. This will fake out the system until you can get it properly switched. A couple old pieces of scrap metal or plastic will do.

Good Luck,

Mike
