I've fired the XDM .40. It was a really nice weapon and I thought handled well. The grip is a bit beefier, but it fits nicely. Not too much recoil and it shot pretty straight on. A friend of mine uses this in the compact version for a CC.

There have been a few threads on these here IIRC. I ve had my XD in .40 for about 5 years. No issues, great gun. Simple to operate. I know some may chime in with other suggestions, but I do not find anything wrong with mine. XDMs are nice as well, fired one and liked it. Dis/ass similar to glock. I would recommend an XD. Everyone I know who owns one, just about every one of my buddies, likes them. I like the backstrap on XDs, it fits nicely in my hand, and the pistol grip is indeed beefier like Brian mentioned, which gives it a good overall feel. Havent come across cons.

I don't like the aesthetics.

The grip safety looks like a colostomy bag hanging off of the backstrap.

I put about 100 rds a week through my XD9 service model.

Indoor, outdoor, 98 degrees or 28 degrees, it goes bang when I pull the trigger.

1000 rounds thus far and no problems using either Remington or Federal 115 gr. I'm anal and keep a log of when I shoot, how many rds, and clean it systematically without overdoing it.

I really like the ergonomics of the gun. I personally like the backstrap safety. It doesn't have any resistance on it, so it doesn't affect the way you grab or grip the gun. Yet, it lets me know that unless I have a good firm grip on the backstrap, it isn't going to go off.

The only modification I've done to mine thus far is the grip tape in the picture. My hands get clammy after 20 rds so I wanted some extra grip without sacrificing the factory look. The section on the handle is obvious, and the less-obvious places are on the very back of the slide. I wanted as little tape as possible in the exact locations I needed it. I accomplished that.

EDIT: I forgot to mention the "thumb indentions." I like them. For the way I hold the gun, my actual thumb doesn't end up in it, but more of the thumb part of my palm, if that makes sense.

No one has mentioned stripping, either. Much easier than a glock. Lock the slide back, push up the takedown lever, unlock slide, pull trigger. Done. And on the XDM, they removed the need to pull the trigger.

Its a great gun... It wouldn't be my first choice, but I would have and use one. Personally I stick with SIG...

I have a .45 compact. Nice gun. I thought it was the best gun for the money. I liked some of the safety features more than a glock or m&p. but mostly it fit my hand better than anything else.

I have an XD-45 and I like it. I like it better then my SIG P226 that's in .357sig/.40sw. See if there is a place near you that you can rent one and try it out. I rented one for an hour and then stopped at my favorite gun store on the way home and bought one.

I have a full size XD-45. I really like it. It's a pretty robust gun. Certainly cycles better than my Springfield 1911. It's my beater gun, it goes in the map pocket in the door when I travel, or under the seat etc. It's a little big for concealed carry, but overall pretty good. It's a double stack mag in the full size, carries 13+1, so be prepared for a large grip. It's got good grip surfaces and it's any easy reach for me to get to the front of the trigger guard with my left index finger. It's got a tactical rail too, so that's also a benefit. I also like the cocked indicator on the back of the slide and the chambered indicator on the top. It's nice to be able see if it's cocked, locked, and ready to rock without having to turn a light on. It's my back-up to the shotgun for home defense.

I have shot the XD in both .40 & .45, compact and full size. Very nice guns. I happen to like Glocks better, but thats just me. I like the grip angle and feel of Glock better, and the barrel axis feels much high on the XD's. I like how my grip feels higher on Glock. That being said, the XD is a great pistol, and if if feels good to you and you can shoot it well, go with it.

I like .40 better as well, just me though

It's been said a million times before, the best gun for you is the best gun for you. Hold it up eyes closed and point it at an imaginary target. Open your eyes. If you're pretty close, then the gun works with your natural ergonomics.

I love my XD40. Whatever else in the world happens, I KNOW that gun will work when I need it to, and is way more accurate than I am. And really, what more can you ask from a sidearm?

I bought an Xdm 3.8" compact in 9mm on Wednesday. I took my carry class today and shot it for the first time. I am really happy with my purchase. I got a pretty good deal on it slightly used. My girlfriend has a Glock 19 and I like this better, not that the Glock isn't nice, but I like the xdm a bit better.

What type of holster are y'all using, for carry. I am not a handgun enthusiast. I AM NOT a big handgun person, just getting into them though I have a few. I have hunted most all of my life and own mostly long guns. Other than the POS paddle holster it came with I don't own any holsters.

It will depend on what style you're looking for. Crossbreed makes a good IWB for the XD. The Spartan is also a good one, but these are on the larger side.

I have yet to try one from these guys, but the owner of tennessee holster company is on XDTalk and a lot of folks over there swear by them, and they're on the smaller side. tennesseeholstercompany.com.

Maybe if I have some extra time next week we can go shooting. I have another interview in Tullahoma though.

close, rob, Tullahoma.

VA, I have looked at the TN holster company. They aren't too far away from here. However, I was hoping not to spend 70 bones on a holster, but I guess you get what you pay for. I joined XD talk a few days ago. Some very good info there. I have also looked at the cross breed super tuck, but they are just larger than what I'm looking for, TN holster co might be it.

You knew what I meant. Is there anything in Tullahoma?

It's hard to find a good concealment holster that is comfortable, concealable and well-made for less than $60-70. You can find el-crappo holsters that would be fine for the range for less than that, but I like to practice with what I carry.

Don't skimp on the belt, either. I've seen guys with $800 guns in $150 holsters on the belt that they got at JC Penney's. That's the same as putting an Aston Martin on retreads.
