Yesterday I hit too much water, too fast. I ended up with an airbox full of water and a disco that choked out. I drained it, and put a dry filter in, but intermitantly it still sputters. It also is not running well at all on startup when cold. Is this the symptom of a mass airflow sensor?

...yes :)

Mine wouldnt start when I toasted my MAF.. and if it did, I had to keep idle up on it, but it still sputtered a lot.. finally 2 days after the fact, when I finally was able to take it to LR.. I was able to start it in the parking lot, but it still sputtered a little bit.. they did a check of the engine for water and everything.. but only found the MAF to be toasted.. replaced that and now it purrs like normal.

You bet. Can you locate a used one that is still in working order?? New ones are around $700.00 (USD - for those of you in CDA).

Mass Airflow Sensor is $115.00 from roversnorth.com .. from the dealership its $150.00 and they charged me i think 1 or 1.5 hours of labor @ 95.00/hr ... so buy it from roversnorth and do it yourself.

Update:

DI - ~574 - 649.00

DII - $121.86

Here is a link to it

I had a whine after wheeling once before, I remember it had something to do with the tension pulley.. I'll check my invoice when I get home.. but my dealer fix whatever it was no charge.. does the whine get louder when you accelerate?

Its a small sealed bearing in there that you can get from a local bearing shop and press in your self. If water gets in it drys out and makes noise untill it die's.. so i keep a few in the glove box on long trips they seem to fail at the worst times..

Oh yeah, just saw this on another post.. but you might want to try cleaning the MAF with electrical contact cleaner.. I have yet to try this, but its worth a shot.

I believe I saw some at pep boys last week.. but not sure..

Just a warning -- I've never used electrical contact cleaner, and especially not on a MAF.. this was just a suggestion that a few different people gave me to try.. but my car was already at the dealership so I didn't have an opportunity to try it..
