Hey all,

Need some quick help please! I woke up this morning and drove my '00 Disco II to work. Had about 1/4 tank or just under so I wanted to get gas. Get out, get gas. Go to start the car again and all it does is crank. It doesn't do anything - no coughs or sputters, just cranks.

Car is still at the gas station, got a ride back home but I need to figure this out and would hate to AAA it to the dealer.

Where should I start?

I checked some fuses arbitrarily in the engine bay and didn't see any obviously blown.

I reseated the relays - is the fuel pump supposed to prime with the key on? I can't tell if it is. The fuel pump relay doesn't feel like it clicks with the key on but its 15F out and I can't tell.

Only other thing worth mentioning is that I used the windshield washer sprayers this morning and the drivers side must have been frozen or clogged. It dribbled some, but not much else - maybe the washer fluid that didn't come out got into something?

Help please!

Always start by checking codes. One of the many possibilities would be the crank position sensor. Did you push it into a parking spot at the gas station? I'd let it cool down completely and go back after work to see if it will start.

Not sure of the spec of US models regarding the immobiliser, but just occasionally this side of the pond, fuel filling stations have mobile phone repeater transmitters built into the structure. You drive in, fill up with fuel, and when done "blip" the door locks with the key fob to secure the truck while paying at the counter. Then when you return and blip to unlock, the doors unlock but the phone transmitter signal blocks the signal from the keyfob to the immobiliser and it wont start. The solution is to push/tow the truck a few yards away and it fires up as normal - fairly rare but it happens...........roadside rescue services often try this as a first option if a car/truck won't fire up in a filling station.
Good Luck!

I went back to the car with a timing light, OBD2 scanner, and volt meter. Battery had 11.9v and the timing light did as well, but when cranking I get now flashing from the timing light hooked to passenger side cylinder I tried. So, that means no spark to me.

I scanned the codes and got a P1590 which I believe is vehicle speed sensor - I have the three amigos and have had them for some time. Is P1590 the wheel sensor?

So I had it towed to the local garage and he does some acura/bmw/ect so hopefully he can diagnose it. My coolant leak I've had is pretty bad - just sitting there it had a little puddle of coolant but I've had a coolant leak for some time now and keep the bottle filled.

crank position sensor (or CPK)

Just like that? Would I get a light? I have had them fail in the past on other cars and it becomes a rough running/timing off type thing. Thanks.

How much and where?
