Hey All

has anyone had to replace their starter motor on a DI with a 3.9 or a RRC with the same motor? My 95 DI starter motor is going out... when you turn the key, you can hear the motor spinning but not engaging. my assumption is that the starter solonoid is going out

questions:

1. does this sound like a correct assesment? i can hear the motor turning but, not cranking the motor... if i keep turning the key eventually it engages and it turns the motor over.

2. has anyone replaced theirs? is it easy??? i've replaced starter motors on a few cars and they have all been pretty straight forward... remove a couple of bolts that hold the motor on and the wires that power it....

3. any suggestions on good sources for replacements???? will rebuilt parts do? is this a part that should definately be a LR part???

thanks

KEN

I took one look and decided it was such a bitch of a job I've paid people twice in a row........ Prices have come down big time, replace with something from ABP/Rovers North or favorite trusted parts source

I replaced my brothers starter motor on his DI. The bottom bolt is easy enough to get out, just make sure you get the 8mm in the top bolt so you do not round it out or you'll be up shit creek without a paddle. You can't see the top bolt, just get a "6 extension and feel your way to it. Disconnect the wires and pull it out. Repeat the process when putting the new one in.

I replaced mine about a year ago. Pretty straight forward. Kind of sucks getting to top bolt. Be careful with the heat shield, mine didn't survive the transition. I got mine direct from Land Rover and I dont recall it being outrageous.

I just replaced mine. It really wasn't a bad job and only took me a few hours. I bought a brand new, genuine starter from Rover Connection for $155.
