Starter Questions

Hello Everyone, my 97 D1 has been acting funny lately. Sometimes it wont start, then will, so I am thinking starter. (whooshing sounds) But if I turn key on but not start it, wait for the click, then start it, it fires up every time. Whats up with that?
I would hate to buy a new starter and still have this issue.

I know yours is a DI but I was having the same problem with my DII I replaced the starter and no problems since... (I know I will get flamed for this but... ) I went to Autozone and got mine for 160.00 it is a remaned Bosch with a lifetime warante...

Took about 15 min to put in...
