Did the steel fuel tanks have a seal between the tank and craddle from the factory? I just picked up a new tank from RoversNorth, and I'd like to keep this one from rusting out like the last one did.
The tank I just pulled off had been replaced under the recall in '99, but after inspecting it, there didn't appear to be any sort of sealant between the tank and the craddle. Water had collected in the craddle, and the fuel pump recess on the tank rotted away.
I'd like to run a bead of silicone around the bottom of the tank between it and the craddle, but I didn't know if there was any sort of method to it. Thoughts?
