Hi Bill Adams here. Maybe you've seen me on FB or D90 where I go by O2batsea, maybe not. Anyway, I want to spread the word here that I'm looking for usable cores from D1, RRC, Defender, and D2 trucks. These are the Adwest boxes in 3 and 4 bolt configuration (Heavyweight, Lightweight, and D2) which I can use to make good steering boxes from. As you may know, these things are getting harder and harder to find and rebuildable ones are even scarcer. If the worm gear gets worn out the box is pretty much trash cz they don't supply that part anymore and if you can find one they're $1500 just for that! Yoiks! So please if you have any laying around taking up valuable real estate, hit me up.
I can also rebuild your leaking, sloppy-steering box if you send it. I charge a flat $200 labor plus parts. Those generally run around $50-70. I paint with Eastwood's Ceramic 2K Chassis Black in satin. You get back a box that's been completely gone over, miked, cleaned, resealed, adjusted and painted. Shipping is on you and runs on average $50 each way. I'm in the DC suburbs in Kensington MD.
Thanks.

I sent Bill one last year that would have otherwise gone to the metal recycler. If you have one attached to a parts rig or just laying around, please send it to him before it ends up at metal recycler. They are pretty much worthless otherwise. He does a great job rebuilding them, way better than commercial rebuilders, and offers them back to the Land Rover community. Rebuilt boxes are becoming harder and harder to get. Contributing one now could very well be a payback later as they become harder and harder to find. Buying one from a commercial rebuilder is a crapshoot as they do not know the specifics of adjusting the boxes and oftentimes their rebuilds are nothing more than installing new seals and spraying paint on them.He does a detailed tear down, inspection of all parts, correctly adjusting everything, and reassembly giving you a like new gearbox. His prices to rebuild are very reasonable as well.
