Ok....so I've done a search and got some info but I think the only thing I am lacking now is where to connect the remote turn on lead. I have an alpine hu and the wiring harness I used had pre-outs for the speaker so I could send an un amplified signal to the factory amp. The remote turn on in the harness is already connected to the remote turn on for the factory amp. Should I splice into that? Can I use one of the speaker lines from the Alpine harness since I have used the pre-outs only? Not sure which is the right move. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Yes you should just splice into that. The head unit's remote turn on lead should have plenty of current to power two amps. If you run a lot of amplifiers, it's always a good idea to use the remote turn on lead to trigger a relay which will in turn send the signal to power up the amplifiers.

Ok, the only reason I was skeptical about that was because the person who had this before me had a bazooka bass tube and had spliced into one of the wires on the factory hu harness and the tube never turned off. So, splicing into the alpine harness before it mates up with the factory harness should work ok??? What about the power antenna lead?? It's not used but when I looked in the Alpine manual it clearly states not to use it to turn on an amp.

First let me preface my reply with the following caution. Although I used to install stereos for a living, it has been well over 10 years.

Now that that's out of the way, some head units have seperate leads for amp turn on and power antenna. In this case, the antenna lead usually only supplies voltage when the radio's on (not while playing CDs). It also may be a lower amperage circuit. If you use the remote turn on lead from the Alpine, it only supplies a voltage or "trigger" when the stereo's powered up. Whatever the previous owner used for the Bazooka was most likely key-switched instead of switched with the head unit's power.

I'm also not sure about your harness situation, but it sounds like you have the harness coming out of the back of the Alpine connected to an adapter that plugs into the factory wiring harness. If this is the case, then just go ahead and splice in between the two and things wil be okay.

Let me know how it worked out. If that didn't do the trick for you, I'll have you shoot some photos and we'll work from there.
