Strange idle question

Im noticing an small idle surge from time to time. Basically only in park or neutral. The idle surges from 600-1100 and back and forth. Im able to fix it by wiggling the wire harnes that goes in front of the engine down to the oil pressure sensor. There appears to be a connector that sends a wire somewhere else. Possibly to the coolant temp sensor? Anyone have a clue as to what could be causing this idle change within these wires?

Thanks.

hum.... last I got that, that was my stepper motor that was stuck (was getting worst as the engine warmed up). I have a 5-spd though.
Could also be a problem with the road-speed sensor?

Thanks MonLand. Im thinking it has to do with the wire harness that runs along the pass side of the front coverdown to the oil pressure sending unit. There is another wire that branches off it that seems to go towards the drivers side under the water pump. Whatever it is, it looks like a RPITA to get to and change.

Isnt the stepper motor near the transfer case?

I had similar idle problems. Changed the thermostat and viscous fan clutch and the idle problem went away. I think the engine was running cold all the time. Had that problem for a year or more, now it idles within 0050 RPM seady as a rock.
