I did a couple searches and couldn't find anything quite like my situation, so I figured I'd throw it out there and see what ya'll have to say.
For the past month or so, my Disco I has been having trouble turning over after running the engine for 30 mins or more. I recently replaced the fuel pump, so I know that's working.
About a week ago, the truck failed to turn over a couple of times, then a few hours later it started right up.
This weekend I drove about thirty miles, parked the truck, tried to start it minutes later and it wouldn't turn. I let it sit for a couple of hours (in the sun as there was no shade) and tried again. When I tried again it didn't turn at all. Just little spurts that barely turned the motor. At that point I had to get it towed.
It went to the shop, where they quoted me a ridiculous price to replace it ($500). So I decided to tow it home by the help of a friend.
I got it to my driveway and about an hour or two later, I decided to try and start it just for kicks. Wouldn't you know, it started right up. I turned it off and tried again a few minutes later and it started, but a little bit harder.
Any thoughts? Replace the starter? Solenoid? Dirty Connections?
I'm about to replace the starter, but just wanna try all the easy stuff first.
