How much time have we all wasted concocting methods to remove those darn stripped nuts and bolt heads? I know I wasted a great deal of time.

Recently replacing a timing belt on my daughter?s VW Jetta, I stripped a Alan-head bolt on the crankshaft pulley. :banghead: Why those German engineers love to use Alan-head bolts is beyond me, but in VWs, they are everywhere. Since they are round on the outside of the bolt-head, removal becomes tedious.

I went to Sears and they sell a ?Damaged-Bolt-Extractor? set of sockets. I purchased the set of 13 sockets for a larger selection of sizes. They are hardened steel, low profile, reverse cutting edges and once you get the bolts / nut almost off, reverse the rotation and they release with ease.

Anyway, these sockets ROCK! :applause: Since then, I have not found anything that I could not remove including those old rusted-crumbling nuts from exhaust manifolds.

I kick myself now thinking back of the time I wasted by cutting notches into bolt heads, screws, wrapping my knuckles with those gator-jaw pliers on stripped nuts, on and on.

They are worth every penny!

I love those, I have a set and they work great. I also have a set for striped screws, those are great too.
