Stuck in Park

Wait, don't trash me for bringing up a topic that has been covered, I couldn't quite find my answer. I am stuck in park - signals do not work, and brake lights do not work. When I press the brake it is makes the "click" - will I need a new relay? All of my fuses look fine. What should I do?

Thanks

If its a disco 1, put a quarter between the leads on the pass. side of the rear glass defroster/defogger. Then turn on the rear defrost. It will send a current to the third brake light, and let you get it out of park. This will get you home, but remember to everyone behind you it will look like you are on the brakes all the time.

If this works, than your brake switch as mentioned above needs to be replaced. Its a 17 dollar part at the dealership, but is a bit of a pain to get at. You need to remove the cover under the driver's side dash, and look up on the brake pedal shaft. There is both a cruise control switch and a brake switch. The cruise switch has a big hose going to it, and the brake switch only has electrical wires going to it.

I did mine a few weeks ago, and worked like a charm. However, I messed up the cruise control somehow. I need to make sure the connector is secure and the hose is seated.

Good luck!

Probably the switch. I'm headed up to NH tomorrow morning early, where are you located in MA? I always have a spare switch with me and we could test it first.

Thanks, my buddy has a spare switch so we're going to try that today if the goddamn rain stops here. Once I get her going, I'll probably have a few new leaks.

Can you even depress the button on the gear shift? If so, another possibility is that a little e-clip underneath underneath the medalion has come off. If that is the case, the lever cannot be moved out of park.

Damn, I hate all that electrickery...relays here, interlocks there...and the vehicle going nowhere.

I have a DII and the brake light switch has gone out AGAIN. Could someone tell me how to replace it and where to buy it? Thanks!
