Stumbles When Wet? Help!

I have a Stock 98 Disco that experiences some weird stubling anytime the truck gets wet. Anytime I go through any collected water, on or off road the engine loses power. It idles perfectly by when gas is applied it will not power over 1500 RPM. If I wait roughly 5 minutesthe situation resolves itself and I can continue on at normal power. I am assuming something is getting wet and then the heat and fans in the engine compartment are drying off whatever is causing the problem. Does anyone have any ideas. I have tried to find the culprit now for months but am running out of places to look.

Thanks!

i have seen multiple times the wires that go to the crank position sensor have the coating melted off and the water causes a short and creates that exact conditon.
on the drivers side, sensor is in the bell housing mirror image of the starter postion.
the wires may have the heat shield, or not, either way its easy to look for. and costs nothing to repair and check. The heat in Florida combined with the water produces a perfect storm. been there done that kinda shit.
Over.

Ignition wires are new so it shouldn;t be them. Not sure where the crank position sensor wires are so any additional directions would help.
Thanks for the quick replies!

from the post i figured you did the obvious,( or hoped) the wires run along the block on the drivers side, look at where the oil pan meets the block, if the cover is on them remove it to really have a hard look,I truly ran into it again last trail ride, all we did is seperate them to keep moving , solved the problem till a better insulation project could be done, the sensor is in the bell housing.

I am assuming you are talking about the distributor cap which mine (98) does not have. Thanks though!

also, take a look at sealing the camshaft position sensor up. the sensor is on the front cover (easiest to get to from under the truck). remove the one bolt, put some silicone sealant between it and the block and seal back up. then, clen and dry out the connector (to the harness), smear some dielectic grease in there and plug back up.

i was also having the same problem on a 96. did above and all has been well since.

may want to take a good look at your ecu as well but i am betting cam or crank sensor.

enjoy!

Well I found the sensor, pretty tough to get too but am not sure how to get the fibergalss looking cover off. It is definitly the problem as I sprayed with a water bottle until the problem occured. Not being able to see much can anyone describe how the cover and sensor is removed? Is a clip in, screw, etc and how is the cover attached?

Thanks!

Down load a copy of the RAVE and follow the instructions. The crank sensor is a b!tch to get off the first time. Much easier once you know the process.

It really sits in a pretty tight spot. Another dumb question but can you tell me where I can download this file?
