:banghead:The 04 disco I bought not to long ago had a missing glovebox latch, the one mounted to the dash not door. I had a salvage yard pull one for me, they had a 2000 and a 2004. Are the latches different? Because the one I have is not lining up with door latch:dunno: if I take it off, I can push onto door latch and it works as it should, but not when mounted:complain: thanks

I don't know if they changed them, but the early models certainly weren't prone to perfect engagement.

Mine would pop open whenever I hit a bump in the road. I fixed it, but I can't remember how.

Cheers,

There is an aluminum bracket that the latch bolts to. The 2000 I bought recently had the bracket bent so it wouldn't align. Just had to shift it to the side and all was good. It's only bolted to the dash frame at the bottom, so the top where the bracket is moves easily. Should only take a few seconds to bend it back into position.

Does the aluminum bracket your referring to go in between the plastic catch and the steel frame attached to dash? Cause all I have is the plastic latch screwed directly to the steel frame.

The frame may be steel. I assumed it was aluminum because of how lightweight and flimsy it was. But yes, that frame is the one that should only be bolted at the bottom of the dash, and what the plastic catch bolts to. The top part of that frame should be easy to move side to side.

Oh ok, I'll try moving that piece in the morning. Your talking about the bar that goes all the way across the top of the glove box opening?

Like Kennith stated earlier, the engagement is pretty terrible. Even if your latch is functioning properly you've got to mess with where your hex screws secure the bottom bracket.

And yes, if it's misaligned at the bottom, then sometimes the latch will feel like you can't push it in depending on what it's hitting on the glovebox latch.

I ended up adjusting the hinges on the bottom of the door, works like a champ. This was way more frustrating than plugs and wires, lol. Hell I think the ball joint and front break job I started tonite has been goin easier too:) thanks for all the help everyone.

I was going to make a joke about high specs and low tolerances, but you'll run across this many times. It's maddening. I think I barely use two screws now to hold it in place.
