Has anyone ever purchased one for their Disco?

I know it is not of the same quality/durability of an Adventure/Wilderness etc rack, but it is also far less cost. I don't need anything super heavy duty like many of you, I just need some extra space for gear.

It is a bolt-together product which has me a bit hesitant. I don't want to spend a ton of money, but I don't want to throw money away on total crap either. I could justify spending $300 on a rack, but just don't need it enough to spend $600+

Thanks for the ideas.

Adrian,
I'd be hesitant about the surco roof rack also. I purchased one when i first got my truck, and it was the biggest piece of shit i have ever had on my truck. If you want something to put some extra gear on that is not full size, i'd go with the arb rack. IF you want to spend the money, the adventure rack is definately the way to go. I couldn't be more pleased with a rack than i have been with the safety devices rack.

I had a SureCo rack a long time ago- it was ok considering it was cheap. I had a spare 31" tyre up in it and it was sturdy enough to take it. Can't speak for the mounting on a Disco though- mine was on a Heep.
Kyle's backpack rack might be just the ticket- don't recall how much he was getting for those. I think that's the way I'll go on my Disco.

I would suggest that if you go for the surco don't use the cheap mounting hardware. Spend the extra few dollars and go with the Yakima cross bars and tower mounts. They are much more sturdy and give the rack a lower profile.
Oh, and if you want a less expensive alternative to the safty device rack but a little better quality then the SURCO check out the CON-FERR racks.

The SURCO is screwed and pop-riveted together...you will break the rivets...for the cost savings finding a used wilderness or something.

I had one on another rig and ended up wrecking it. I liked it because it was Aluminum and it held up to living in NH on the ocean....but it didn't hold up to use.

Thanks for all the input guys. I think I'll pass on the SUCKO (Sp?) roof rack. Even though it *might* get the job done, there is enough doubt about it's capabilities that I'll pass.

On another note: In the last hour I found a local place that sells welded 1/2 racks for about the same price anyway. Most likely I'll go that route.

Thanks again.

Eeek.. Dont. I got one and it started rusting after less than year of exposure to CO weather.
And ConFerr not even care to respond to emails. And it is btw single welded piece, which should be
pretty prone to rust.
