Swapping rear diffs

I'm replacing my warn rear diff with a new to me used one. My diff oil looks like silver paint, and i get a loud whining on deceleration. If i'm completely swapping diffs, is it necassary to pull the centering peg? Or is it just pull driveshaft, remove brakes and hub/axle assy, and pull, replace carrier?

no need to pull the peg unless you are swapping to a 4 bolt rear driveshaft.

get new o-rings for the hubs.

Thanks, I didn't see why it would be necessary, but rave says to pull it for some reason. I'm picking up orings tomorrow

the rave probably wants you to pull it as a step to changing pinion seal , rave likes to change every seal involved in any repair.

leave the pinion for sure....unless its leaking.... much easier to set up the lash
