sway bars when disconnected?

:confused: what should i do with them? I am thinking just rotate the sways upwards and fab up some kind of fastener, any suggestions? I'm planning to make the disconnects myself out of trailer hitch pins. this will be on a stock suspension except for steering damper relocation, any thing to watch out for?

if it would be me i'd just buy some springs like they selling in hardware stores so those ends will raise themselves up when disconnected :)

But then i am still fighting on how to deal with front bar disconnected on my '94... :(

I just pushed the sway bar up on m 99DII with those JKS Disconnects. Then i either zip tie or bungy cord the links or whatever they are called to the sway bar so they dont fall down. Seems to be working well. I havent gotten around to putting in those storaqe pins that came with it yet.

Throw em' in the trash! I'm serious the handling differences are not worth the extra effort in my opinion. Unless you rarely off road then leave em' on. Plus, you can't get those cool front tire off the ground picks with your sway bars removed. :rolleyes:

Just dislocate (remove the vertical bar and 2 bolts) one side and let the damn thing move up and down from the other, stays out of the way on it's own and you only have half of the work when the day is done.

I had 120K on my original springs when I removed mine...front and rear.
They sat in my garage for years after that.

No real problems once I got used to it.

I just removed mine, no big deal and took less than 45 minutes. Also took the time to remove all their supporting hardware from the axles. Cleaned them up and put them in storage.

Its d1. There is no veritcal bars - its bloody U shaped thing.

Another reason to have at least front attached that i got - i dont want any issues with insurance. Overheard how dude was told to sod off b/c of that.

But quick disconnects will be nice.. :) And not ones that Aedofab style - i dont see myself going under there into much and mud each time when i need to connect/disconnect.

Oh yeah and with 3" suspension lift sway bar nicely rubs against the front shaft, btw. So dislocating ends aint working well - another reason to not like just ends disconnecting..

As far as disconnects go the front isn't really worth disconnecting till your over 3" of lift. The front won't drop enough to with a factory springs, ome md or hd lifts. Do the EE 3" lift idea and its a different story. The rear dissconnect will help out. I wouldn't recogmend disconnecting the sways permentally unless you have hd springs and great shocks. I wheel with guys running fox shocks and 4" lifts, there trucks corner very flat without roll and have no sway bars. They can do that because they are set up really well. The danger of no sways is a emergency manuver on the highway. A snap of the wheel to avoid something at 65mph could roll you, unless your truck is set up to handle no sway bars. I disconnect my rear for trail running, it's a PIA but I feel safer on the highway. My 95d1 I disconnect them and swing the bar around and bungee them to the frame horns. My disconnects are the sway bar links (the things going from the end of the bar to the axle) cut in half and two tubes welded to them. One tube is larger than another so one slides inside the other. A heavy duty hitch pin goes through both tubes and secures them. Works well, but messy when your truck all muddy and you want to disconnect or connect them. I run an OME md lift (about 45k miles on it) of about 1.5" and bilstein shocks, 235/85's. I can still hang with the guys out here running lockers, 4" lifts and all the bling, but I wouldn't want to run a salomn course against them. :eek:

BTW, in VA at least, you can't pass a state inspection unless they're totally on, or totally off.

On a side note, does anyone here run a hinged and pinned front radius arm? ... allows for good articulation up front, without a monster lift or super squishy springs. I know it's been done on the Disco, but haven't heard anything in the past few years about how its fairing on them.
