Believe it or not, there is wood out there that would make a perfectly good bumper on it's own. I've got some under my bed. It's called Bloodwood, and you just aren't breaking it. It's supposed to sink in water, but it's so damn expensive, I haven't tried it.

There is a similar wood in Africa that is so hard, to split it for firewood, you must use two chisles and alternate them with a big hammer up the branch until it splits through. Even bloodwood will destroy most tools very quickly. I can't see how a properly blocked bumper made of this wouldn't be perfectly fine. It would look stupid, sure, but it would be better than stock.

Fir, though, isn't what I would choose. And I wouldn't do it anyway, even with the toughest wood in the world, because it is a silly idea. Metal will always slide better, and even the hardest wood in the world isn't as hard as metal.

What the heck though. Let him have his lincoln log bumper. He is obviously having fun with it.

Cheers,

Kennith

Ok, so where was I during all of these episodes? Probably out riding horses!

I've honestly never seen a Simon and Simon show, but I have (weirdly enough) seen both of those hunting shows on Versus...mostly b/c Ivan watches them.

I've seen some really nice fly rod reel seats made of bloodwood. Real nice!

Do you remember "Major Dad"? Gerald Macraney was in that. After that he did "Promised Land".

Cheers,

Mike
ps FWIW Macraney is a big contributor to the USO:patriot:

1) What happened to Lagged And his 3/4 Degree in Mech?

I was busy all day working at making that a whole degree. I'm a junior at cmu. This thread turned into discussions of old tv shows or something that were before my time so I sort of lost interest.

I saw the pic, I have nothing against the show, its just I stopped follwing this thread when it went off topic. That bumper has lots of surface area to mount a winch, with drywall screws of course. And you could always undo the nails and use it as a sand ladder!

garrett i'm sorry for not having graduated yet. I guess I could have gone to school every summer and have that peice of paper in my hand right now but i was lazy.

I have heard that blonde wood is quite durable and good for bumpers. I have a blonde in my bed. I have wood in my bed. The problems start when i want to bumper!

After wasting my time reading this thread, it would appear that most of the posters on this fourm are under the age of 25, and still resort to name calling and boorish behavior favoured by children. Right, i've read enough. I was hoping to find a Rover fourm with adults who could act like adults, but I guess it's all about everything BUT the vehicle.

It's nice of you to come and defend your homies. Now you can go back to Muddy Oval with a job well done. God speed.

My son rather liked your paint job at MAR. Only problem is that he wants to paint the Hunter camo now, but I did talk him out of a 2x4 rear bumper....
