Switched Power Question

I am about to install an aftermarket amp in my 03 DII and am staring at the trailer wiring harness. It got me thinking that instead of running a switched power wire from the existing radio harness it would be much more convenient to get it from this source since it is right where the amp would be mounted. I looked at the rave manual but im not gonna lie it kinda confused me and was just wondering if someone could give me a quick answer as to which wire would work for a switched power source. I sorted through all the topics discussing aftermarket stereo's but i couldnt find what I needed
Thanks guys

I wired my amp to the 12v socket on the drivers side behind the rear seat. Has been working with no problems for the last two years

I dont believe he is talking about the main power for the amp which I totally agree with gmookher on, do it the right way the first time. From what I understand he is looking for a switched power source to connect the low power switched lead to though. All this lead does is switch the amp on when the truck is started (very little current ever used for this lead). I could be wrong though

my apologies, yes indeed for the remote turn on lead, you can use switched power from the 12v dc socket

however, as you may find, many RCA cables for cars have a remote turn on lead already integrated into them, if youre gonna run RCas ya may as well run that blue wire too

If my radio is off, my amps are off

this is key when your battery voltage is low, it will minimize load on your alternator in the long run, otherwise you car on=amps on

I have 3 amps, and I run class AB Zapco for my subs and primary speakers, so current draw is a real concern(Once you ditch the ever popular Class D crap, you'll see how warm and real AB sounded a decade ago and still does.) Its good to be abl eto trun off all my accesories and just go for a drive to charge things up..

I agree 100% one day I will wire everything on my truck correctly like you have. I'm just lazy and hate running wires haha

If you remove the "trim casing 'D' post", you can tap int the remone on for the antenna amplifiers. That's what I did (although I wired my Sony head unit so they are on with the head unit turned on, not just the radio on).
