97 Disco ? ABS with 84K miles.
Just replaced all wheel bearings and seals.
Next, I am going to do swivel tear-downs. Yes, I know, should have been done sooner.
Anyway, working with Nathan to order parts that I may need so I can start and complete the job in one weekend since she is my daily driver.
So, here are a few questions for the experienced:
? Do I need a seal/bearing puller for Stub-axle
? How difficult is it to remove/replace the thrust-ring on Stub-axle
? Is that stupid little torque test adapter required or can non-abs approach with spring scale be used to set pre-load
? What is your opinion on the biggest obstacle for this job

Thanks,
Bruce

You need a service manual! It will answer all your questions.
Try going to eBay and do a search for "land rover cd manual"
and you will find someone in Miami who is selling teh Official LR Rave Cd on line for $14.70. A good investment, I have the Cd and use all the time.................

Got the Rave already. As we all know, many of the recommended tools are not required and sometimes they over-stress complexity on specific areas that are relatively easy and visa-versa. Looking for hints on this effort based on questions or others hints.
Thanks,

A slide hammer is easiest, but you can pound out the seal and then the bearing from the stub axle using a screwdriver or other tool bent at about a 70 degree angle about an inch from the end. You'll kill the seal (but you're replacing that anyway), but sometimes the bearing can be saved. Make sure the end of the tool is sanded smooth or you'll mar the inside of the stub axle (lightly sand out if necessary).

Drive the seal and bearing in with a large socket. You might have to get a new one to fit, but cheap. I also used a block of wood to drive in the bearing and a soft hammer.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN - note location of the seal and bearing. The bearing is not driven all of the way in! It is just recessed from the bronze lips of the inside of the stub axle. Also, you must get the bearing straight or the cv/axle will wobble in the stub axle.
