Synthetic Line to Winch Drum?

This may be a dumb question but better safe than sorry. My first winch (used) Superwinch X9. Came with brand new MasterPull synth line. See pic. Need to figure out best way to secure line to the drum. The stock mounting holes and set screw on the drum will not work with the eyelet on the synth line.

If the best option is to drill and tap a new hole - would you do this on the drum or on the side flange of the drum?

Anything else I need to consider?

TIA,

AndrewT

looks like you can just touch the metal ferrol on the end of the line to a grinder to get the side clearence you need to use the hole in that drum?

the bolt dosent hold any force so its not like it needs to be strong...more just to terminate it , the force gets taken by the friction of the wraps on the drum.

I cut the end off of the rope and used a copper electrical solder type connector. I used my press with a socket to smash the rope in the connector. If you don't have a press you could always use a vise and a socket.

Thx for the input. I have a 20 ton press and also have a battery terminal crimp tool which is basically a guide that you can simply beat the piss out of to crimp battery terminals. Maybe I'll do that. Will try grinding down the eyelet first as Muskyman suggested.

i have a EP9 and i had to drill the hole in the drum completely through and pass the bitter end of the line through the drum. i taped the bitter end down and laid the first wrap over it. these were in the instructions given to me from winchline.com but i'm only assuming that the EP9's drum setup is the same as the X9. i hope it helps.
