Tapping sound?

Hi again, I know I am the most retarded rover driver here, and often my post seem to cause an upset. But I again have another question.

It rained hard in Houston the the other day, and I was out in my rover and took it through some high water. Maybe a little too fast. CES light came on with codes p1300, and 308, 304, and 306. I looked up the codes and they were all miss fire codes.

Did not seem like that big of a deal but now my engine sounds louder. And there is this ticking noise. I can hear it best when under the car, or in the car. It goes and comes and speeds up as I accelerate. It sort of reminds me of the sound of having something stuck in a fan. I have checked the fan, and nothing appears to be stuck in it.

I also checked the air filter box and dry as a bone, dust and stuff in the lower part. I would have though if water had gotten in there I would not sen dust.

In any case anybody have any ideas what I could have done to my rover?

Also, any place I can read about maintenance to my rover after taking in high water?

Note, the water was just about an inch or so over the curb, I would say it was about 10 inches of water total.

check your fluids make sure there is no water and they are at the correct level...the water you were in does not sound deep at all so it could be something un related. where is the sound coming from? front of engine? back of engine? cats? underneath?

Its an 03 Disco with 58k mils on it.

The sounds sounds like it cold be coming from under the engine, as I hear it best when I put my head under the car.

I did just take my disco in to have the belt replaced because of a ticking sound that sounded like it was coming from the belt, and we did find that the belt was falling apart.

There is a metallic sound to it, but more like a plastic peace flapping and hitting something metal.

a big splash of water on hot exhaust manifolds will sometimes cause them to crack and the resultant sound is a loud click or sharp sounding exhaust leak sound.

:( Hmm, I hope it is not that, that looks expansive to fix! Is the car still drivable with that issue?

The more I listen to it it sounds like clacking then ticking. I was next to a BIG MAC truck and it sounds alot like what I am hearing.

roverMc, yes, I looked for stuff like that could not find a thing.

If you need new exhaust manifolds, you could get hedmann headers from summit.

I put these on mine, they fit without bending anything but heat shields (and some exhaust work)

I bent my heat shields just changing the number 7 spark plug last night.

zeek, pull up next to a house or other object with truck running, you can hear the sound bouncing off, get under and have a look. if it changes with RPM think of what all that could be.

YAY it is fixed! Turns out it was the exhaust flange. I took it to the rover shoppe, they fixed it up for me :)

I really need to learn more about fixing my own car.

Thanks guys for the help!
