Tents and a Disco 1

My wife and I are looking for new tent. I have been shopping online, looking at the ones that can connect up to the rear of the discovery allowing the rear of the Disco to serve as sleeping quarters. Any suggestions for brand, without breaking the bank? Also looking for easy set up and break down of the tent. Thanks Mike and Michele T

I used to have one of these for the RR but I got tired of having to unload everything from the truck when I wanted to sleep. A regular tent is so much easier when you have all of your tools, Engel and so on in the truck for a week long trip.

Still a good idea though.

I bought one of these in the large size (also comes in a smaller size). The nice thing is you can attach to either side or rear of truck. You can also roll up the sides and use the poles (included) to rotate it up and make a great sunshade/awning.

The bad thing is it is NOT good in windy areas. Even staked down, it acts like a giant airfoil.

I've seen the large ones now on Ebay for ~$180.

i kind of dig it. are the sidewalls permanently attached? are they cut at an angle for when it's on the ground like in the picture on the kelty site?

They are permanently attached and roll up out of the way. Yes, they are cut at an angle.

ive been eyeing that kelty shelter for a while and almost jumped on it when it was on sierratrading post. i even poured over your pictures noticing you had it inside out. i still dont know if thats the one for me or not but its getting a little rediculous. ill turn into one of those that waits for 5 years looking for the perfect x and be miserable the rest of the time. one thing im sure is the season is upon us for useing a sunshade.

LOL-Yes it was inside out. It popped like that when I was setting up on one side of the truck with the wind. I was too tired to worry about it. I managed to pop it back and set it up on the other side where pictured in the pic above.

Like I said, it does not like wind. It also takes the same effort to set up as a tent. Jack and now Aaron made their own small sunshade as you see in the pics that is much easier to set up so nicer for just stopping for a lunch break. Downside is it's small and can't tilt down as a shelter/tent.
